New Year... New Way of Thinking

Every January, as the new year arrives, we begin by making plans, creating goals, and writing down a list of new years resolutions. This is a good thing as long as it's realistic and motivating, not a source of discouragement. It's always helpful to think of ways we can make ourselves, our relationships, and our lives better and more fulfilling, as long as we realize change doesn't happen over night and, instead, is a work in progress.
It's also helpful to make plans for the future, as long as we remember to stay flexible. Sometimes plans don't go exactly how we envisioned because the direction in which we were headed doesn't align with the path we're meant to be on. This is frustrating and we feel tempted to quit, however, if we're flexible and have faith in the process, we can let things unfold as they're meant to, and we'll find things will, most likely, turn out even better than expected.
I've found the best way to move forward in the right direction is to write down the things we want to change, make realistic goals, create a plan of action, and then take it one day at a time. Instead of forging ahead as we're tempted to do, take it slow by taking a few steps forward, stopping to observe and evaluate if our goals/plans are working or not. Listen to our intuition, and if it feels right, take a few more steps, and repeat. This goes against our need to want everything fixed immediately and our plans to work out perfectly, however, by taking it slow we'll not only be more aware of what's working and what's not, but we'll be able to make small adjustments in the right direction as we go along. As we let our inner compass take over and guide us to where it wants us to go, we'll begin to find peace and joy as we slowly align ourselves with the path we're suppose to be on, and to the person we were made to become.
